Harmoni has been designed as a data delivery platform so your data can stay in one place through the process. The best way to share results and insights generated in Harmoni is through Harmoni stories and dashboards.
You can also export your tables and charts to PowerPoint and Excel from Harmoni. These export functions intend to provide slides and tables close to the Harmoni view being exported, but not identical. Charts are exported to PowerPoint as editable objects, so you can get them just the way you need them once they’re exported.

1. Export stories
There are three options to export entire stories to PPT or Excel.
1. From the three-dot menu on the Story tile, select Export to XLS or Export to PPT.
2. When you are in the Story preview pane, click on the XLS or PPT icons in the top right corner.
3. When you are in the Story View preview pane (after clicking on a story view), click on the XLS or PPT icons in the top right corner and select Export story from the drop-down menu.
2. Export a view from a story
There are two options to export story views to PPT or Excel.
1. When you are in the Story preview pane, click the three-dot menu on the Story view tile and select Export to XLS or Export to PPT.
2. When you are in the Story view preview pane, click on the XLS or PPT icons in the top right corner and select Export view from the drop-down menu. Note you can also use the three-dot menu on the story view tile in this pane.
3. PowerPoint export and template
Most Harmoni chart types are exportable to PowerPoint, export in an editable format, so you can get them just the way you need them once they’re exported.
When exporting to PowerPoint, you can customize your story using a PowerPoint template. A two-page PowerPoint template, with a heading page and a content page, can be loaded onto a site by emailing support@infotools.com.
-
The first page of the PowerPoint template is the title page. This always appears as the first page of the PowerPoint file created when exporting from Harmoni.
-
The second page of the PowerPoint template is the content page. This is used as the template page for each exported view from Harmoni.
-
Top, bottom, left, and right margins can be set to ensure that the content exported from Harmoni goes into the appropriate place.
-
Table headings and single number display prefixes and suffixes using the font family set in the PowerPoint template.
-
The color of the graph axes and legends use a color that contrasts with the color set in the Background Styles, i.e., for dark-colored legends, choose a light color background style, and vice versa.
-
When exporting a single view, the PowerPoint file will have two pages – the title page and one content page containing the view content.
-
When exporting a full story with x pages, the PowerPoint file will have x+1 pages – the title page and a content page for each view.
Editing data and data labels in PowerPoint Exports
When you export a Harmoni chart to PowerPoint, you are able to edit the data, however, there is no link between the data and the data labels.
The reason for this is the labels are switched to edit mode in order to insert the SIG testing icons. This breaks the link between the data and labels and means that if you want to update a data point after the export, you need to manually change both the data and the label.
- In the PPT export, access the data table and change the data point. The representation of the value, e.g. the bar in a bar chart, will change, but the label remains the same.
- Select the data label that needs changing.
- From the Chart Elements menu, deselect, then select Data Labels. This removes, then adds the corrected value without the percentage sign.
- To add the percentage sign, select the data label, right click and choose Insert Data Label Field. This allows you to add a % sign after the number.
4. Excel export
When exporting a story or a story view to Excel, the tab names in Excel automatically display the header name of the analysis.
Excel limits the tab names to 30 characters only to avoid long names.
5. Invalid Views
Occasionally you may notice a story view becomes invalid. This usually happens because the axes used to create the analysis (down, across, filter, etc.) are missing due to being deleted from the project or because these are not available when using Global filters. When a global filter is active, views will be filtered only to show applicable data to that filter.
When exporting to PowerPoint, an invalid view will create a blank slide.
6. Rounding on export
Two rounding options are available in Harmoni. The default option is Bankers Rounding, but this can be changed to School Rounding.
Bankers Rounding is an algorithm for rounding quantities to integers (whole numbers), in which numbers that are equidistant from the two nearest integers are rounded to the nearest even integer. We round 0.5 to the nearest even digit.
In School Rounding, the midpoint values (0.5) are rounded to the next number away from zero. This is the most widely known form of rounding. Learn more about rounding.
Whichever form of rounding is in place, the following rules apply on export:
- When exporting to Excel, we export numbers with the same number of decimal points shown in Harmoni.
- When exporting to PowerPoint graphs, we plot the full number but display the rounded number.
- For example, in a graph, we plot 2.61 and 2.65, so the 2.61 appears lower, but they both show 2.6.
- When exporting to PowerPoint tables, we export numbers with the same number of decimal points as shown in Harmoni.
