Global filters are a unique and powerful way to change overall data displays in Infotools Harmoni. They are a top-level filter option that is applied to the project, view, story, and dashboard.
When saving an analysis to a story view, the global filter settings and personalization keys create a number of possible scenarios for how you can save the view. We will take a look at the options available.

- Global filter Active (On), set to filtering element
- Global filter Active (On), no filtering element selected
- Global filters Inactive (Off)
- Summary of options
To understand the options available, let's consider the following examples:
- The global filter axis is Region and the elements within it are Global (includes all regions), North America, Latin America, Asia Pacific, and Europe.
- You (Owner) create a story view with the Market variable across and the Overall Satisfaction variable down, with Gender and Household Income – US as available filters.
- You share the view with your team.
- Sarah defaults to the Global region but has access to all regions
- Ana's default region is North America but can also access other regions.
- Tim is limited to North America
- Mike is limited to Latin America
1. Global Filter Active (On) - set to filtering element
Scenario 1 - Global Filter Active (On) and set to Global
a) Save with Filter Off
- Users allowed to see the Global region will see the view as you saw it when you saved it, i.e. all markets across, and the Global Filter set to Global.
- Users that default to another region, but also have access to the Global region, see all markets shown across, and the Global Filter set to Global
- Users that have the ability to change the Global Filter to another Region can change the Global Filter to see only the markets that exist within the selected region.
- Users limited to a single region, other than Global, will only ever see the Markets that exist within their Region.
- The HH Income – US variable has been set to only be visible if using the Global or North America Global Filters, so only users using one of these Global Filters will see the HH Income – US variable appear in the filter list.
b) Save with Filter On
- Users allowed to see the Global region will see the view as you saw it when you saved it, i.e. all markets shown across
- Users not allowed to see the Global region will see no data.
