There may be times when you choose to hide columns or rows or even suppress some of the data in your analysis. You can do this using the options available in the modify menu.
- The option HIDE under selected, allows you to select columns or rows to hide.
- The option Show Limit Display under display, allows you to limit the number of columns and or rows you want to display in your analysis.
- The options ZERO and NULL under suppress, allows you to limit the data when you have zero counts so you don't see 0% when it's not relevant.
In this article:
1. Hide items from your analysis
There may be times when you choose to hide data in your analysis. You can select columns and/or rows and hide these from the view.
For the HIDE option to become available, you need to select a column or row.
- The HIDE option hides the selected row or column.
- You can add items back into the analysis by using the select menu. Learn more.
While items are hidden from the view, they are still part of the overall calculations of the analysis. If you want these items to be excluded from the overall calculation of the analysis, you can use the View Total Option.
- Select the column or row to hide and then choose the HIDE option.
- You can select a range of rows by using the CTRL + shift keys.
- Select the first row
- Hold CTRL + shift keys
- Select the last row
- Choose the HIDE option
- To display the hidden items again, use the select menu.
2. Show Limit Display
Show limit display gives you the ability to limit the number of columns and/or rows displayed in your analysis to focus on key areas of interest.
Show limit display is dynamic, so it will adjust as your data updates or you interact with analysis filters.
- Expand the Show limit display icon.
- Enter the number of columns and/or rows you want to display
- Click on Show limit display option, your analysis adjusts based on your selection.
After entering the number of columns and/or rows to wish to limit, click on the
limit display icon to 'activate' limit display.
Limit display: number of columns and rows displayed
- For rows, the order (top "n") goes from top to bottom (excluding the total).
- For columns, the order (top "n") goes from left to right (excluding the total), except for time axes, where it counts from the last period (i.e. right to left).
- For a nested group, limit display is only applied on the inner level.
- Columns or rows suppressed by ZERO or NULL, are still considered as part of the top "n" items to show. This means that your analysis may show fewer columns or rows to what you have defined.
- After applying limit display, if you choose to HIDE a column or row the analysis will display the next available item, that is, it will always show the number defined.
- After applying limit display, if you choose to deselect an item from a column or row the analysis will display the next available item, that is, it will always show the number defined.
- While items are not displayed in the view, they are still part of the overall calculations of the analysis. If you want these items to be excluded from the overall calculation of the analysis, you can use the View Total Option.
- Show limit display on time axes counts from the last period.
Combining limit display with Rank allows you to show the top/bottom items in your analysis. These will dynamically refresh as you interact with filters or update the data.
3. Suppress
a) Suppress Zero
This feature removes columns and/or rows from your analysis when the numerator is zero.
This option doesn't appear in the modify menu if you have a row or column selected.
b) Suppress Null
This feature removes from your analysis columns and/or rows when both the numerator and denominator are zero (i.e. the base is zero).
This option doesn't appear in the modify menu if you have a row or column selected.
