A pyramid chart usually takes the shape of a triangle and is divided into horizontal sections. It typically displays an interconnected progression in the data. Funnel graphs are a type of pyramid graph.
Pyramid graphs are only available to view on screen.
Use these in online stories and dashboards.

1. Pyramid Graph
A pyramid chart is a simple way to show ordered data or hierarchies. Like a stacked bar chart, each segment is stacked vertically. However, the height of each segment is the same, and the value of each segment, represented by its width, is usually (but not always) smaller than the segment below, which gives the pyramid shape. Pyramid charts are particularly useful when the data is ordered from largest to smallest.
In the example below, the axes are ordered in the tree from smallest to largest, and so the chart displays the progression upwards from awareness to trial and regular consumption.
- Select the axes. In this case a grid has been setup with the required axes that share the same element list.
- Click Visualize and Harmoni defaults to a bar graph.
- From the Visualize menu, select the pyramid graph icon.
- To change the sort order of the brands, Total Brand Awareness is selected and Ranked.

Conversion Rate Percentages
The conversion rate shows the proportion of respondents who move from one level of the pyramid to the next. In the example of Cool Nut, 50% of respondents move from Total Brand Awareness through to Tried in the Past 3 Months and 79% move from Tried in the Past 3 Months through to Drink Regularly. The conversion rate default direction is from bottom to top.
Ranking
You can change the order of the rows by using Rank. This will also change the direction of the conversion percentages calculation.
In this example, rank changes the pyramid graph to a funnel graph.
- Rank the table
- Use the Visualize menu to select a pyramid graph
- Ranking highest to lowest changes the order and displays a funnel graph

Conversion Rate Direction when Ranked
- No ranking: bottom to top
- Rank high to low: top to bottom
- Rank low to high: bottom to top
Reordering
Using reorder allows you to manually change and control the order of the rows. This can be necessary if you are pulling individual axes from the project tree, rather than a grid with a preset order. When you select individual axes, Harmoni defaults to ordering the axes in the same order as they appear in the project tree.
Note that you cannot use reorder if ranking has been used.
- Drag the required axes with the same elements to the analysis pane
- Use reorder to order the rows
- Click Visualize and select the pyramid graph
